Title: “Happy Relationships” September 15, 2019

Text: Philippians 1:1-11

Our vision as a church is for you to:

Þ  Know God (Believe)

Þ  Find freedom (Belong)

Þ  Discover purpose (Become)

Þ  Make a difference (Bless)

  • You are as happy as you choose to be!
  • Happiness is not a goal – it is the result of right thinking and right living.

Philippians 1:1-11

This letter is from Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus.

I am writing to all of God’s holy people in Philippi who belong to Christ Jesus, including the elders and deacons.

2May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

3Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.

4Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy,

5for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now.

6And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

7So it is right that I should feel as I do about all of you, for you have a special place in my heart. You share with me the special favor of God, both in my imprisonment and in defending and confirming the truth of the Good News.

8God knows how much I love you and long for you with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus.

9I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.

10For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.

11May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.

HOW TO HAVE HAPPY RELATIONSHIPS…

1. BE GRATEFUL FOR THE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE.

Philippians 1:3 “Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.”

  • The enemy doesn’t have to steal anything from you – all he has to do is get you to take the blessings in your life for granted.

2.PRAY WITH JOY FOR THE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE.

Philippians 1:4 “I always pray for you, and I make my requests with a heart full of joy.”

Philippians 1:9-11 “I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.

10For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.

11May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.”

  • Pray that the people in your life will…
  • Grow in love
  • Make wise choices
  • Live with integrity
  • Become more like Jesus!

Galatians 5:22-23 “The Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control.”

3. EXPECT THE BEST FROM PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE.

Philippians 1:6 “I am confident of this, that God who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

  • One of the greatest gifts you can give to people is to believe in them!

Philippians 1:7 “It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart.”

  • Celebrate how far people have come rather than judging how far they still have to go.

4. LOVE THE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE LIKE JESUS DOES.

Philippians 1:8 “God is my witness that I tell the truth when I say that my deep love for you all comes from the heart of Christ Jesus Himself.”

1 John 3:16 “This is how we know what real love is:  Christ gave His life for us.  So we then, ought to give our lives for others.”

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

JOY = JESUS + OTHERS + YOU

HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE!
