“The Power of the Blessing”

Nehemiah 4:14

After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”

Mark 10:13-16

One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so He could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering Him.

14 When Jesus saw what was happening, He was angry with His disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.

15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”

16 Then He took the children in His arms and placed His hands on their heads and blessed them.

  • Children are a blessing that comes from God.

Psalm 127:3 “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.”

  • Parents are to be the “priests” of the home.
  • The role model for children should be their parents!

Proverbs 20:7 “The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.”

  • Parents are blessed to be a blessing to their children.

Numbers 6:24-27

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;

26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”

27 “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.”

  • Parents have the power to speak life or death over their children.

Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”

Six words to speak over your family…

1. Words of praise

Proverbs 25:11 “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold
In settings of silver.”

2. Words of thanksgiving

Psalm 127:3 “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.”

3. Words of affection

Matthew 3:16-17 As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.

17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.”

4. Words of encouragement

Ephesians 4:29 “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”

5. Words of kindness

Proverbs 15:1 “A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.”

6. Words of prayer

Luke 18:1 “…always pray and never give up.”

  • Never give up on your children!  Pray for them everyday.
