5-5-19 Sermon Notes “The Camel Filter”

Title: “The Camel Filter” 5/5/19

Luke 18:24-25 “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!

25For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

  • Everyone goes through the “Camel Filter” at some point in his or her life because God will test your faith!

1 John 5:4-5 “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.

5And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.”

Mark 10:17-22

Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”

18 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.

19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’”

20 And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.”

21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”

22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

  • Every time Jesus talked to someone He brought him or her to a decision point.

Mark 10:17 “Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him…”

Mark 10:17 “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”

Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”

Mark 10:18-19 “So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.

19 You know the commandments…”

  • The first four commandments have to do with man’s relationship to God:
  • You shall have no other gods before Me.
  • You shall not make for yourself a carved image.
  • You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
  • Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  • The last six commandments have to do with man’s relationship to others:
  • Honor your father and your mother.
  • You shall not murder.
  • You shall not commit adultery.
  • You shall not steal.
  • You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  • You shall not covet.

Mark 10:20 And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.”

Mark 10:21-22 “Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”

22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

  • Jesus put His finger on the one thing that was keeping this man from eternal life – his possessions.

Hebrews 11:6 “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.”

  • You are blessed to be a blessing!

Psalm 50:10 “For all the animals of the forest are Mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.”

  • When you give God the first, He blesses the rest!

“He is no fool who gives up that what he cannot keep to gain that what he cannot lose.” ~ Jim Elliot

Psalm 103:2 “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me.”
