Title: “Family University”

  • Teaching your children about God is the most important responsibility we have as parents.

Psalm 25:4 “Show me how You work, God; school me in Your ways.”

The family syllabus:  Five things to teach your children…

  • Love

1 John 4:7-11 “Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for loves comes from God.  Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.

8But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

9God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him.

10This is real love – not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His only Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

11Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.”

  • Forgiveness

Ephesians 6:31-32 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.

32Instead, be kind to each other, tender hearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ Jesus has forgiven you.”

  • Discipline and boundaries

Proverbs 19:18 “Discipline your children while there is hope.  Otherwise you will ruin their lives.”

Galatians 6:7 “Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.”

  • Responsibility

Galatians 6:4-5 “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.

5For we are each responsible for our own conduct.”

  • Emotional strength

Matthew 20:29-34 “As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him.

30And two blind men were sitting by the road, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”

31The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried our all the more, “Lord, Son of David have mercy on us!

32Jesus stopped and called them, and asked, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

33They answered Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.”

34Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.”
