12-2-18 Message Notes “God With Us Part 1”
Title: “God with us…In the Valley”
Matthew 1:23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
“Valley” = place of battle, danger, fear, loneliness, desperation and uncertainty.
- We may enjoy God on the mountaintops but we get to know Him intimately in the valleys.
Psalm 84:5-7 “Blessed are those whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. 6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. 7 They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.”
- The valley is often the pathway to the place of peace.
Psalm 84:5 “What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.” (NLT)
- The valley is not the destination. You are just passing through.
Psalm 84:6 “As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs…”
- You never go through the valley alone!
Psalm 84:7 “They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.”
Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil, for You are with me…”
