“Learning to be Happy”
- Happiness is a choice! you are as happy as you choose to be!
- God’s goal for your life is not happiness – it is OBEDIENCE!
Psalm 119:35 “Make me walk along the path of Your commands, for that is where my happiness is found.”
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
FOUR PRINCIPLES TO LEARN THAT WILL LEAD TO HAPPINESS…
1. SHIFT THE FOCUS AWAY FROM YOURSELF.
Philippians 20:20-21 “I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. 21For everyone looks out for their own interests…”
“You can make more friends in two hours by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” ~ Dale Carnegie
JOY = Jesus + Others + You
Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but TO SERVE, and TO GIVE His life a ransom for many.”
- Jesus came to SERVE and He came to GIVE!
2. BECOME SOMEONE THAT PEOPLE TRUST.
Philippians 2:22 “…Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.”
How do you become someone that people trust?
- Live with integrity
Proverbs 25:13 “Reliable friends who do what they say are like cool drinks in sweltering heat – refreshing!”
Proverbs 25:19 “Putting confidence in an unreliable person in times of trouble is like chewing with a broken tooth or walking on a lame foot.”
- Keep your promises
Psalm 15:4 “God blesses the person who swearth to his own hurt.”
3. LEARN HOW TO WORK WELL WITH OTHERS.
“The key to success is not a few people doing a lot but everyone doing something. Teamwork makes the dream work!”
Philippians 2:25 “But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs.”
Philippians 2:25-26 “For he (Epaphroditus) longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill.”
1 Corinthians 1:10 “I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.”
4. LIVE FOR SOMETHING WORTH DYING FOR.
Philippians 2:27, 30 “Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him…30He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.”
Mark 8:34-35 “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow Me.
35If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for My sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.”
